The laboratory is dedicated to the study of materials performance and durability under different conditions of testing. Pore structure of materials, such as natural rocks, masonry, mortar and concrete, can be determined by mercury intrusion as well as by gas and water permeability. Vacuum and capillary absorption, density or shrinkage and moisture transport mechanisms can also be study and determined. The durability of building materials under attack by acids, temperature, salt crystallisation, carbon oxide, and freeze/thawing cycles can also be evaluated in different set of chambers specific developed for that purpose. The laboratory is also dedicated to the study of innovative materials and behaviour of different products for durability.
